At Chantry we believe all children are individuals, with different needs and strengths. Support is provided through “Waves” which reflect the level of need. Where possible support is provided as Wave 1 or “Adaptive” teaching. This reflects our ethos of Inclusion and the belief that all children can make progress at their level when environment reflects need.
Wave 2 provides short term interventions over a period of 10 – 12 weeks with a clear learning focus and assessment to check progress.
Wave 3 reflects a higher level of need with longer term support in place. At this level an Education Health Care Needs Assessment (EHCNA) may be sought by the parent/carer. You can do this by contacting ISEND. If you want to be sure this will be recognised as a formal request, you can put it in writing and refer to Section 36 of the Children and Families Act 2014. Amaze has a template letter on their website (see links below).
East Sussex use a Matrix which you can access here: https://www.eastsussexmatrix.co.uk/ This provides guidance on the threshold required for an EHCNA to be considered by County and is what school use to ascertain whether an EHCNA can be sought via the school.
Child and parent/carer voice is central to our SEND process. Children will be asked to share their views with trusted adults in school, by being part of meetings, or with you at home. Parent/Carer views are sought throughout the process with the class teacher initially, through structured conversations, and in review meetings to ensure we have a clear picture of your thoughts about provision that will provide the best fit.
